FAQs

Why was SHINE created?

This project is all about community values and Banff’s human story – celebrating our uniqueness, our volunteers, valuing the kind souls who are shining examples of ‘community service’ and make this a better place to live, work and play. The project will celebrate the civic minded people who are our ordinary extra-ordinaries; the behind-the-scenes catalysts; the artists; the connectors and the motivators; the youth who make an impact; the indispensable ones who enrich our lives with their generosity of spirit.

Who is eligible to be nominated for SHINE?

Anyone who contributes to Banff’s community and enhances it. There are no age restrictions or categories, just amazing people. You’ll see more information on nomination eligibility on our Nominate page.

How do I nominate someone?

Easy. Visit the Nominate page and complete the form on-line.  Make sure that you ask permission of your nominee (details are on the nomination form).

Where do I send my nomination form?

Complete your nomination on-line or you can pick up a paper copy at Town Hall at the Community Services desk and complete and submit it to Community Services.

How will people be selected from the nominations?

A blind jury will be gathered in late June to review all the nominees and make their selections. Careful deliberation and much thought will be given to each nomination and each shining story told.

When will they be announced?

Join us at the celebration event in November when we announce who will be featured as part of SHINE 2013 and unveil a commemoration to them!
